Energy Source > Sumatra-Java Infrastructure

Besides its vast lignite resources and reserves, South Sumatra has existing and planned energy infrastructure such as power grids to North Sumatra and Greater Jakarta as well as gas pipelines to West Java. These available infrastructures provides South Sumatra access to Sumatra, Java and ASEAN. Gas pipelines owned and operated by Indonesia State Owned National Gas Company (PGN) span across Sumatra connecting to western Java (Cilegon). Transmission lines for electricity connects southern Sumatra to northern West Java through 275kV transmission with plan to increase the capacity to 500kV, known as the HVDC Transmission Line Project.

According to the Government of Indonesia’s Masterplan of Acceleration and Expansion of Indonesia Economic Development 2011 – 2025 (MP3EI), South Sumatra is identified as one of the economic corridors which is considered as growth center and is expected to boost Indonesia’s economic development. More importantly, Pendopo is identified as one of the economic centers within the Sumatra corridor. Sumatra is intended to be the Indonesia's center for production and processing of natural resources as well as Indonesia's energy reserves.
